Interview # 7
James Ryan
James Ryan attended the Royal College of Art with a heartfelt love of painting but also an awareness that the photorealist paintings he had been making were no longer what he wanted to do. So he took everything apart and started again.
“It was about a year of making bad paintings and having bad ideas, just being lost, but open to the idea of failure as well. I knew there was going to be an outcome eventually. They were going to get there sometime, but there were times when tutors would come in and I’d just be really embarrassed about what they were looking at.”
